San Francisco's oldest, most trusted weight loss program

Program Structure

The MD Weight Management program is organized into distinct phases to help you reclaim your health and achieve a healthy weight.

The first phase is called the Total Meal Replacement Phase.  Board-certified physicians and highly trained nurse practitioners medically monitor progress while you consume prescription meal replacements and discontinue medications as weight loss progresses.  Our experienced group leaders include registered dietitians and a licensed clinical social worker who will teach weekly behavior change curriculum specifically designed to help you reach your goals.

Towards the end of the first phase, we implement a Transition Phase. Introducing conventional food after solely using meal replacements can be a scary time for most patients. This is why we implement a 6-8 week transition phase where you will continue to be medically monitored while slowly reintroducing food. Your group leader will work closely with you to ensure the smoothest transition possible.

The Weight Management Skills Phase is the most important part of the program. You are automatically enrolled in maintenance after completing the transition phase. During this phase you will build upon your foundation and practice strategies to maintain long-term weight loss and lifestyle change.  Expert instruction in nutrition, fitness and the daily practice of healthy eating will help you sustain your new, lower weight.
